This kind of listening fosters a sense of care and connection, crucial for leadership.

When you're empathetically listening, talk way less. Most of our acknowledgments can come nonverbally. If I'm listening to you, I'm nodding and my eyebrows are moving, and I'm really emoting as you're speaking.

Authenticity means being the same person in all situations, which helps others know what to expect from you.

Authenticity builds trust. When you are authentic, when you are yourself and you are that way all the time with whomever you're with, that shows others that this person is real and is being real.

Rich also highlights selflessness as a critical trait, where leaders take risks or make sacrifices for the benefit of others 3 4.

    Decisiveness

Decisiveness is essential for effective leadership, especially in high-stakes environments. He also discusses the balance between patience and impatience, and how both traits can coexist in high performers 5 6.
